Jun 28 Game recaps & Training (week of June 29th)

Jun 29th - Men and Junior squads are training near the Pavilion at Sunnybrook, (Men-bring runners). Women are up at Fletchers.

Men's training on Wednesday (Canada Day) is at Sunnybrook.
*********
A rare day with all three men's teams in one location - 27 deg and sunny took a lot of energy out of the play.

Mens 3 were able to play full contested scrums and even had subs for the day! We showed some willingness to play rugby about the field, with some nice breaks in the first half, through the centres and with pressure on their scrums and from scrum-half. 2nd half changes in centre and flanks, and an aging, unfit fly-half as well as some unwillingness to move forward to receive kicks enabled Ajax to get the upper hand. 24-15 for Ajax

2s won narrowly, after getting up on their opponents. Simon Anderson had a strong game at fly-half as did Ian MacLeish on the wing in the second. Both making and finishing some telling breaks. Orlando also had some storming runs from prop. However, energy lags late in the game allowed Ajax to keep it close. 27-24 for Saracens

1s had the measure of both possession and territory in the first half and looked to control the game, until Ajax 19yr old #11 showed his pace and movement to score two tries outstripping the cover, and creating enough attention to free up other players. While the men in green & white managed to continue putting in effort, it was the supersubs MJ and Rollie who put some go-forward momentum into the game. Unfortunately all a little late. 43-27 for Ajax.

A common theme throughout the day were the one pass too many and too risky while in contact as well as losing ball in the contest. The 2s managed to tighten up early to exert pressure; however, the other teams found their balance a little too late in the game.

Women 2s beat Aurora Barbs 29-17 in a difficult exchange, with harry Craig reffing. Unfortunately a serious shoulder injury to for new player Emily ended the match a few minutes early.

Boys U16 lost a tight match to Nomads 22-17, while the U14s managed to put 40 odd points on Ajax (stepped of the gs, and played as many of their less experienced players to ensure everyoe gets experience and game time - both games were played earlier during the morning.
